Celebrate Female Creators at “Power in My Hand: Women Poets, Women Artists, and Social Change”
The Betty Boyd Dettre Library and Research Center plays host to art and literature created by and dedicated to powerful women throughout history. It regularly displays collections of sketches, photos, books, and other masterpieces in special exhibits. Currently, you can check out Power in My Hand: Women Poets, Women Artists, and Social Change.
Now through August 30th, this special display will highlight the special bond that female poets and visual artists share. It focuses on pieces created specifically to sing the praises of other women in the arts. For example, the exhibit contains a poem by Muriel Rukeyser celebrating German artis Kathe Kollwitz and Judy Chicago’s Dinner Party, a work of installation art dedicated to Emily Dickinson. Poetry, artists’ books, and visual works make up this unique, female-driven exhibit. Admission starts at $8.
