If you’re a fan of D.C.’s whiskey lounge Barrel, then you should definitely know about The Eastern. The owners of Barrel are bringing their libation-centric expertise to the new mixed-use project at 700 Penn in Eastern Market. They’re set to debut The Eastern, a chic wine bar, in the near future.

The comfortable 1,500-square-foot wine bar will only play host to about 45 seats, so you should show up early for happy hour if you want to snag one. Once you do, grab one of the 40 wines available by the glass to sip and savor. They’re all handpicked by Robert Morin, the former sommelier at Flight and wine director at The Partisan. You’ll be able to pair your vino with Chef Hernandez’s small plates, ranging from sea bass ceviche to beet salad.
