Meet Up with Fellow Video Game Enthusiasts at the SAAM Arcade Near Our Capitol Hill Apartments
The Smithsonian American Art Museum—AKA “SAAM”—is known far and wide for its collection of national treasures. What you might not realize, however, is that the Smithsonian’s gallery architects see art as much more than just paintings and sculpture. They recognize the artistic integrity of video games both new and old, as well. That’s why they host the SAAM Arcade every summer, not far from our apartments in D.C.
It’s coming back to the Kogod Courtyard on Saturday, July 30th from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. True to its name, the daylong showcase transforms the courtyard into a fresh-air arcade. While the focus is on up-and-coming designers debuting their brand new video games in the Indie Developer Showcase, you’ll also find lots of classic video games to try at the SAAM Arcade. The theme this year is “Color, Line, and Form,” three elements of art that factor into every video game ever invented. Try your hand at the many vintage and just-invented arcade games as you participate in the scavenger hunt (find the list of clues at the info table). The event is free to attend.
