Maialino Mare brings an idea that crystallized in NYC a decade ago to Washington, D.C. A couple of months ago, the Roman-style trattoria made its grand debut with a menu of Italian coastal cuisine, including seafood-laden pastas and fish-centric entrees. The ingredients come from local farms and fisheries whenever possible, so you can always expect the freshest meal.

Swing by in the morning to grab a cup of coffee with an olive oil muffin or a glazed cinnamon roll on the side. If you sit down for dinner, start with the charred octopus with fingerling potatoes and the house-baked focaccia bread with whipped ricotta on top. Then dig into a plate of pasta and seafood, such as the trenette with Little Neck clams, white wine, and garlic. Or opt for a larger entree, perhaps the swordfish with capers, white wine, and mushrooms or the salt-baked sea bass for two.
