The National Gallery of Art’s Friday Jazz in the Garden Series
There’s nothing like summer in the city, and DC has some of the country’s most beautiful and iconic urban public spaces where you can enjoy summers to the fullest—especially with events like the National Gallery of Art’s Jazz in the Garden Series.
This free concert series, now entering its 18th season, allows residents of the DMV to enjoy the fresh air, great music, and the company of friends and neighbors. Savvy locals bring a blanket to spread out on the grass or nab one of the seats along the water’s edge before picking up a pitcher of sangria from the cafe to accompany a home-made picnic. Other folkstake a leisurely stroll through the sculpture garden as the music picks up. This year’s performers span a range of styles, including Michael Thomas Quintet (traditional jazz), Josh Bayer (swing and bop), Black Masala (Afro-funk), and Son del Caribe (salsa). Concerts run from 5 to 8:30 pm, weather permitting.
