Explore the Art of the Self Portrait With “Eye to I: Self-Portraits from 1900 to Today” at the National Portrait Gallery
What would your favorite social media platform be without the all-important selfie? Take a look back at the history of self portraiture in our country with the National Portrait Gallery’s latest exhibition, Eye to I: Self-Portraits from 1900 to Today. Over 75 artists have contributed works to this new opening, from photographers like Imogen Cunningham to painters Elaine de Kooning, Edward Hopper, Alice Neel, and many more. It’s an interesting look at the history of self portraits, and their reflection on identity.
Eye to I: Self-Portraits from 1900 to Today is the final exhibition in the Portrait Gallery’s 50th anniversary collection, and will be included in the commemorative book to be published next spring. Get your first glimpse at the exhibition when you visit the gallery this holiday season. The National Portrait Gallery is free and open to the public seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
