Don’t “Rafael Lozano-Hemmer: Pulse” at Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden
From now through April 28th, the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden is hosting “Pulse,” a special exhibition of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s groundbreaking work. The exhibit posits a connection between humanity, technology, and art, and is a fully immersive experience, so you should arrive ready to actively participate in the show.
When you arrive, you’ll walk through three separate installations, each of which requires a different type of interaction. In the first, you’ll insert your own index finger into a scanner in order to activate a panoramic display of other people’s fingerprints and biometric data. The second installation is focused on water. You use your own hands to activate sensors that cause ripples to flow across the surface of the water coordinated to the rhythmic beating of your own heart. In the third installation, you’ll find yourself in a glowing red room filled with the audio of more than 200 hearts beating at once. When you touch the sensors in this room, your heartbeat joins the rest in a truly awe inspiring light display. This is one exhibit you won’t want to miss!
